How Can Itching On The Body Be Treated?

I am having a serious case of itchy skin...my dermatologist has suggested several different treatments and none of them have helped much..........sarna,mupirocin,ointment, triamcinolone acetonide cream,permethrin5% clobetasol 0.05 cream, elimite 5% cream. This has been going on for almost 3 months. I am very itchy and quite uncomfortable and sleep is impossible. Sarah U. YYYY@YYYY

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of itching on the body and its been ongoing, it seems to be allergic reaction, contact dermatitis, side effects of certain medicines, sensitivity to sunlight and could be due to systemic conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to

- Take zyrtec one a day and apply cold compresses to reduce the itchiness and inflammation.

- Drink plenty of fluids.

- Avoid application of any hard cosmetics.

- Maintain proper personal hygiene.

You should consult dermatologist for proper examination Doctor may order skin patch test , blood test , test fro allergy and physical examination . Doctor may prescribe corticosteroid ointment , antibiotics , anti inflammatory and immunosuppressants .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
