General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Based on the presenting symptoms, it appears that you are having 'seborrhoeic dermatitis' of the scalp. It is treatable and can be controlled but incurable. It is characterised by spontaneous remissions and exacerbations.
Kindly use shampoo regularly which contains one or more of the following ingredients:
1. Coal tar
2. Antifungal antibiotic such as ketoconazole or ciclopirox
3. Zinc pyrithione
4. Selenium sulfide
In addition, you may need to use topical steroid lotion such as desonide, if necessary.
Kindly start with using shampoo every alternate days for 3 weeks and then use it twice weekly for a month. Rest of the times, you may use mild shampoo.
Depending on the response, you need to continue its use at least once a week to keep the condition under control.
Kindly consult Dermatologist for necessary follow-up in this regard.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards,
