I had gone through your history and understood true concerns. By seeing your history colostomy was done. In this one end of the large intestine is out in the abdominal wall and catheter will be letting the stools in attached bag. Up to this medical history it was clear

Coming to complications of surgery, the most common complications of this surgery are bleeding and infection. Your resident was complicated with infection (intertrigo). The most important thing that we have to keep in mind is, the infection might be caused by fungus or bacteria or virus. So we have to check for exact cause by following things:
1. check for fever to rule out bacterial infection
2. complete blood culture
3. blood and urine culture test

Coming to treatment part:
1. avoid exposure to moisture, friction and exposure to sweat
2. using absorbent fabrics or body powders
3. antifungal drug in case of fungal infection and antibiotic in case of bacterial infection
4. if not relieved bycreams you can use oral drugs
I find this answer helpful
