How Can Hair Fall During Breastfeeding Be Stopped?

Hello sir, I am female , age 29 years, since past 1 year I am having hairfalll and I have no dandruff , neither do I have any itching. I am having a kid of 15 months and he is on breast feed. Prior to hairfall I had pretty good thick hair. I am taking protein rich food and is under no stress, despite that hairfall is unstoppable. Please advise me medication, and if possible some natural medication. Hair are coming one by one

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

During pregnancy the increased levels of estrogens in your body makes your hair thick and lusturous, hair that would normally fall out stays put, resulting in thicker hair. After delivery when estrogen levels fall you start losing all those hair that were resting during pregnancy. This usually starts the third or fourth postpartum and ends by six months. This is a temporary phase

Hair loss persisting after that could be due to deficient Iron stores.

If i was your treating doctor i would have asked you to get a few lab tests like Serum ferritin levels, Thyroid profile, Vit D levels.

I would advice to take a good healthy diet, continue with your Iron and calcium supplements and Vit D supplements till you are breast feeding. Continueto take a high protein diet because hair is all protein(keratin). This phase will pass sooner or later.

regards
