How Can Fungal Infection On The Thumbnail Be Treated?

A few months ago I jammed my thumbnail, the nail partially broke about halfway back. Since then I have kept it covered with a bandaid to keep from snagging it while it grew out. I also applied Mupirocin ointment to ward off any infection. Now the nail has grown out, but it is very thick and discolored. I wonder if i have a fungus.
