Hi & Welcome.
Based on the history given you have developed
hyperprolactinemia (
increased prolactin level in the blood) which appears to be due to the prescribed medication Risperidone.
Risperidone is an antipsychotic medicine used to treat schizophrenia (psychosis) and symptoms of
bipolar disorder (manic depression) and other conditions.
On prolonged treatment Risperidone elevates the prolactin level ( by antagonizing dopamine D2 receptors in the brain) which persists during chronic administration.
Hyperprolactinemia may reduce pituitary gonadotropin secretion. This, in turn, may inhibit reproductive function by impairing production of male and female sex hormone and this results in impotence or
erectile dysfunction.
In view of the above, I would advise you to consult your treating
psychiatrist to review the prescribed medication Risperidone and to prescribe an alternate effective but a safer medication to treat the symptoms of psychosis without affecting the sexual activities.
Your doctor may also prescribe certain medications such as Sildenafil or Tadalfil to overcome the ED problems.
Hope this will help.
A feed back is appreciated.
