How Can Elevated Blood Pressure Levels Be Treated?

Essential HTN on Lisinopril 5mg. BP running 150-160/100-104 day 4. PCP increased lisinopril to 10mg yesterday. Took 5mg this morning and plan to take 5mg tonight. BP still elevated. Headache only symptom. How soon should I expect BP to decrease with new dosage. This is my second month on Lisinopril; feel like it s not working. Was on Amlodine 5mg March-July, but legs swelled. HCTZ August-October-almost passed out. Feeling hopeless. 50 year old female. Could the spikes be hormone related?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear. Welcome to Healthcaremagic. I read your query and I understand your concern. The effect of lisinopril is immediate you are not having the effects because you are still taking a smaller dose. You need initially 10 mg and maintenance dose 20 mg. Otherwise you should combine it with a diuretic. Ask you doctor what is better for you. Take care.
Hope my answer was helpful. If yes vote helpful.
Regards, Dr Olgeta Xhufka ( general and family physician)
