How Can Ear Congestion Be Treated?

I m over a real bad head cold. Took a ZPac last week, the cold went to my eyes & ears, mostly cleared up but my left ear will not open, 50% hearing only. I m taking Mucinex, I ve been using Simialin Drops to help open but no luck. Any suggestions ? Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common with upper respiratory tract infection. It is because the Eustachian tube (tube connecting your throat and ear) gets blocked.

Nothing much to worry as it will settle with simple conservatives measures. As of now you can take antihistamines like Cetirizine and do steam inhalation for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
