Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother lives with me , she has dementia and has begun to experience sundowner. She takes .5 of lorazepam 2x a day, 1in am 1 in afternoon. I am nervous for evening to come as I begin to see her stew. Awaiting nursing home consults. In the meantime is it ok to give her 1 pill in evening to help manage her. I have not got in touch with her doctor yet.
I understand your concerns it may be difficult to care for a patient with dementia. Regarding Lorazepam you can giver her a tablet in the evening as well. We generally give divided dose in elder patients. So you can use it 3 times with care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
