Hi,
Dementia has multiple causes. In the elderly, vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's disease are common causes.
There can be variation in patient to patient and time to time. If he is on treatment, conditions will improve.
Inability to take care of himself is usually the last stage. Unable to identify anything and complete loss of any care are also seen.
If you have any further queries, will try to help again.
