How Can Constipation Long After A Large Bowel Resection Be Treated?
3 years ago my wife had about 1 foot of bowel removed. she was having trouble going and would have a prolapse on occasion. she has got along pretty good until a few months ago she started having constipation again. she sometimes feels like she has to go but only a little pebble might drop.she s afraid to push to hard for fear of a prolapse.she is going to get a colonoscopy here soon.she s concerned this could be the same or worse than the last surgery. if she takes laxatives she gets diarrhea. what do you think is going on?
As your wife has constipation, you can give syrup Duphalac 15 ml at night. You can increase the dose and frequency of the syrup Duphalac as per the response after surgeon opinion.
As she is going to underwent Colonoscopy which rule out all other possible causes.
Can I come to know whether she had blood in the stool or pain during defecation? I will suggest you to review here with detailed history or consult with the surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shyam B. Kale
