How Can Cold Along With Fever And Chest Congestion Be Treated?

My husband and I both have colds, only one day of fever, congestion, but the thing that is strange is we both have rough areas on our tongues. This not only feels funky but affects how our food tastes. Does this sounds familiar? We are both 64 years old.

Hello,

As per your query, you and your husband have symptoms of cold along with fever and chest congestion which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection. It can occur due to bacterial as well as viral infection.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to avoid taking outside food. You should avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should take proper course of antiviral/ antibacterial medication along with anti-inflammatory medication. Roughness on tongue is due to raised papillae of tongue. Apply Orabase Gel-B on that. You should consult ENT specialist for proper check-up.

The Doctor may order certain test to confirm the diagnosis like blood test, throat swab test and prescribe X-ray chest examination as well. You should start treatment after complete examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
