How Can Chronic Diarrhea In An Infant Be Treated?

My 6 month old son is suffering from loose motion from the last 15 days he was given ofloxacin and metronidazole oral suspension and he was referred to stool analysis which indicated presence of reducing substances in traces along with motile and bacillus bacteria and pus cells of 1-2/hpf and ep cells 1-2/hpf. We are giving giving him lactose free formula milk along with arrowroot powder. Please suggest further treatment.

Hello dear. Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor'. I read through the query and understand your concern
The fecal analysis shows infection so you are taking the right treatment, antibiotics and antiparasitic.

Be careful to keep him hydrated.
If you see that he is dehydrated and isn't taking much fluids go to ER to give him fluids intravenosely.

Take care.

Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions ask me again.

Best regards.
Dr.Olgeta Xhufka ( general and family physician ).
