How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?

I have been suffering from allergy for almost 5 weeks. My doctor said it was a sinus infection. After 5 days on antibiotics, my sinuses may be better, but my cough is so bad that every muscle across my back hurts. What can I take to stop the cough?

Welcome to the Healthcare magic platform,

I have understood your query. Follow the instructions as mentioned to help ease your cough problem:

1. Stay Hydrated: Take plenty of water to help thinning of mucus secretions
2. Try Lozenges and Hot drinks like black tea or green tea with honey
3. Use humidifier
4. Avoid fragrances and scented sprays that may irritate the mucosa
5. Avoid smoking (both active and passive)
6. Apply vicks balm on your chest and back muscles at night
7. Use menthol drops in water bowl and take steam inhalation
8.Take Over the counter cough syrups which include decongestants containing phenylephrine or pseudoephedrine as the active ingredient OR use cough suppressants such as dextromethorphan at night.

Hope this answer is helpful. If you have any further questions, please do no hesitate to ask me

Cheers,
Dr. Khoja
