General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms could be due to viral or allergic bronchitis. You can take following advises:

- Take cough syrup containing guaifenesin and dextromethorphan (Q tussin CF)

- Drink plenty of lukewarm water

- Take steam inhalation 3 to 4 times a day

- Take strepsil throat lozenges (neem and honey flavor)

- Avoid cold beverages, smoking and exposure to pollutants

If the cough persists despite using the above medication, then further workup like sputum examination would be required by consulting the pulmonologist.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up is needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
