How Can Behavioural Changes After Taking Cipro Be Managed?
My dad went to the emergency room for pneumonia and he is 72 he had something on his lung so they hooked him to an IV and kept him for two weeks the lump in his lung was going down. But the hospital could not keep him and we didn't have 24 hour care so we had him admitted to an assisted living and rehab center. And after a couple of days my dad had totally changed in his thinking and behaving. He wanted to sleep alot and he was putting his coat on backwards saying he was waiting on my brother in a different state to pick him up and he went down the hall going into other people's rooms drinking their water and so on.. And that is Not like my dad... Anyway we took him to the emergency room and they found out he's allergic to cipro and they took him off. The problem is even after they took him off three weeks later he's still doing this behavior. And we don't know what to do he went in a normal man and now everything has changed can you please help??
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Hallucinations, depression and anxiety are some side effects of Ciprofloxacin allergy. If these symptoms don't go away after Cipro disrupt than you may have to contact a neurologist/psychiatric doctor. I suggest you to take him out, spend time to converse with him, give him lots of fluids that body remains free from Cipro.
All the best.
