How Can An Insect Bite Be Treated?

My husband was bitten by a deer tick on Saturday. In the past, the doctor had prescribed a short time antibiotic that was good if it was caught in the first 48 hours. My doctor is currently ill and I am unable to contact him. Do you have any idea what drug would be best to use for this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query, you have symptoms of insect bite which leads to an allergic reaction, and it seems to be due to the toxin injected under the skin. Need not to worry.

I would suggest you do:
- Clean the area with antiseptic solution and then apply antiseptic ointment over it.
- Maintain proper hygiene and clean area and avoid any scratching to prevent infection.
- Take Zyrtec drug to avoid exaggeration.
- You can take anti-allergic medicine like Levocetirizine and along with it take an anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.

If the condition does not become better, then visit the general physician once and get a complete examination done and start treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
