How Can Acute Anxiety Be Treated Along With Present Antidepressant Medications?

I am on PRistiq antidepressant and xanax. xanax does not seem to be working for me as my anxiety continues during the day. What can you recommend for high anxiety that can be taken with my antidepressant which would be safe and no side effects? Or an antidepressant that has high anxiety with it?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

Pristiq is Desvenlafaxine and Xanax is Alprazolam. Xanax help to decrease the symptoms of anxiety but it can't result in significant improvement. Increasing the dose will not help much because it is a benzodiazepine drug and it can cause dependence. For control of anxiety you can discuss with your psychiatrist to increase the dose of Pristiq if anxiety is not under control. Other antidepressants like SSRIs which have relatively high efficacy as compared to Pristiq can be used. You can discuss with your psychiatrist for medicines like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Sertraline etc. For severe symptoms drugs like propranolol will prove useful.
Try relaxation exercises, breathing exercises to keep yourself healthy.
