How Can Abnormal Heart Rate Be Managed?

I have hyper thyroidism and had a heart rate of 160 briefly, mostly over 100, with PVC s. Doctor put me on metoprolol tartrate twice daily. I notice that at about 10.5 hrs after the pill, my heart rate goes from about 80 to 92 but I start abnormal beats again. Wonder if I should take the pill three times daily.

Hello,

Hyperthyroidism causes your sympathetic system to be on overdrive. Metoprolol is a beta blocker drug that helps reduce the symptoms.

But what it essentially does is slow down the heart. If you are taking it twice daily, you are almost covering the 24 hours.

You could adjust the times that you take the medicines so that the 10.5 hours cover the times you need to be most functionally. I would not advise you to increase the number of doses at this point, continue as advised.

You could try altering the number of doses at a later date with your physician’s advice in mind.
