How Can Abdominal Pain On The Left Side Be Treated?

I ate some beef that I am now thinking was bad because two days later I had stomach issues. No diarrhea or vomiting, but it felt like someone punched me right below my left rib cage and my bowel movements and urine felt like I just ate spicy food (I don't eat spicy food). The pain is no longer but every now and then it feels like i ate spicy food. Also, I am trying to get pregnant and I won't know if I am until this weekend. I ate the meat on Thursday, stomach pain on Saturday and now it's Tuesday and mostly subsided. Is this something that may require antibiotics?

Hello,

At present, it might be a 'gastrointestinal' symptoms diverticulitis, celiac disease thus you should contact either a general surgeon, gastroenterologist or gynecologist and if not sure consult your general physician who after reviewing your case history and physical examination will refer you to specialist concerned.

The most common diagnoses of lower abdominal pain relate to uterine, gonadal, renal, and bladder complications, [less common causes like primary dermatologic and musculoskeletal problems as well as referred pain and neuropathies related to underlying vertebral and spinal cord complications can also occur], so examination is mandatory for further workup and management.

Since the pain is unexplainable and accompanied by a few associated symptoms thus it is wise to check with your doctor since persistent or chronic pain should be examined to rule out any serious underlying causes. A doctor can diagnose the cause of the pain and develop a treatment plan that will address the underlying cause of lower left abdominal pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Munish Sood
