How Can A Wound On The Arm Be Treated?

My husband fell about two weeks ago and scraped his arm on the tile in our bathroom. The scrape still has some bright red blood oozing out of it. He s been ill the last few months and I m concerned the wound hasn t healed. He is on prednisone and antibiotics. Should he see a doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Since it is now two weeks since you husband fell and injured his arm, and the wound has yet to heal, he should take culture specific antibiotics and proper dressing. The fact that he is on Prednisolone, would delay wound healing. He should see a general surgeon, who can send the swab from the wound for bacterial culture and antibiotic sensitivity, and advise the proper antibiotic. The wound should be dressed with appropriate topical antibiotic ointments which the surgeon can advise as per the culture report. He must also rest the injured arm for faster resolution of infection.
