How Can A Urinary Tract Infection Be Treated?

Yes please. I have Cipro 500mg and I know I am getting a UTI. I just moved from Texas to Virginia and I am about to get on a plane and travel for 4 days. We don t have minor ER clinics here and I do not yet have a PCP. Is the correct dose 1 PO x 5 days?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Urinary tract infections can develop when bacteria enter the urethra and travel up into bladder. The urethra is the tube that takes urine out of the body. Once bacteria go into the urethra, they can attach to the walls of the bladder and multiply quickly.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
-Drink at least 10 glasses of water each day.
-You should also avoid caffeinated drinks, including coffee, tea, and soda. Caffeine can irritate your bladder even more when you have an infection.
-frequent urination :Drink plenty of fluids so you can urinate, and go to the bathroom as soon as you can.
-if you have pain in the pelvic region take pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen
-Wear cotton underwear, loose pants, or skirts to promote air circulation and reduce bacteria growth.
-Continue using cipro 500 mg 1 tb a day for 5 days 2 hours after the meal
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
