How Can A Small Incision Near The Nipple Be Treated?

breast abscess treatment after draining puss. had a golf ball sized abscess under left breast. went to emergency room. was cut open and drained. then patched. now its oozing pus and blood. but it does not hurt as much as it was yesterday because my boyfriend helped squeeze A LOT of infected puss out of the area. i have a small incision near my nipple. seeking further treatment and wondering if i should flush it before i re patch it. i change the patches 2-3 times a day and always use clean gauze, tape, scissors, gloves, and neosporin on the outsize of the wound.

Hello,

Clearly the abscess is not draining properly. The incision at the opening is likely not quite large enough and there should be packing in place to make sure that the opening does not close up while the deeper parts of the abscess heal.

You need to go back to your doctor or the ER to have this re-evaluated. Also, if you are not on antibiotics, you probably should be if pus is still present. This is very important so that it does not become a larger surgical problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Timothy Raichle
