How Can A Burn Wound On The Thumb Be Treated?

My husband burned his hand near the thumb area while cooking four days ago. He washed it when it first happened. A water blister formed, then burst while he was in the shower. He has been applying Neosporin, but it appears to be getting worse. What do you recommend? Would Silvadine work and if so, is it over the counter? Any medical advice would be appreciated.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your husband burnt thumb.

As per your and symptoms it seems to me it is now worsening because of post burn infection.

If he feels feverish and there is throbbing like feeling in thumb and discharge of pus, it is then infected.

He needs to take a course of antibiotics, if I would have been his treatment doctor I would like to recommend the Amoxicillin clavulinic acid eight hourly for five days.

Keep the wound clean and wash it once with hydrogen peroxide, but only once and keep it dressed.

Hope my answer will help you and visit us again if you need more help.
