How Can A Bladder Infection Be Treated?

I have the beginning of a bladder infection, i.e., urgency and mild discomfort upon urination. Have been drinking lots of water for 8 hours, taken extra vitamin C, and now have prescription for amoxicillin. Does that sound about right at this point?

Hello,
Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic.
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

The symptoms you have mentioned suggestive of urinary tract infection(UTI),we can not surely say that it is bladder,it can affect any part of the urinary tract.
You don't need to worry regarding this because it can be cured completely with prompt antibiotic therapy.
I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get the following things done:-
(1)- Do urine routine examination to make a provisional diagnosis of UTI.
(2)- You have to start a short course of antibiotics preferably norfloxacin (amoxicillin is not that much effective for UTI)
(3)- If you have any pain or fever, you can take acetaminophen.
(4) -Cranberry juice can act as good urinary antiseptic and would provide symptomatic relief.
If the symptoms persist despite all these you may require additional investigations like urine culture and sensitivity to find out the exact bacteria causing the disease and to choose the best antibiotic.

You can try the following to prevent urinary tract infection:-
1.Drink plenty of water.
2.Check your blood sugar level to rule out diabetes.
3.Empty your bladder before and after intercourse.
4.Practice good toilet hygiene.
5.Drink cranberry juice,it act as a urinary antiseptic and protect you from urinary tract infection.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
