History Of Family Hypertension. Which Drug Keep Me Away From The Side Effects?

.hi.im 36 yrs old male.im 170cm tall and weigh 74Kg.During the routine medical tests,my parameters of blood lipid profile and urine have been found to be well within range.the ECG was normal as well.however,my BP was in the range 140/100.i have a family history of hypertension.
so ,i guess i'd need to be on medication soon.please advise which is the safest tab for the same.some Docs have suggested metpure xl 25 to amlopres5/50.i want to know which drug will do the needful with least collateral effects.
i am apprehensive about the side effects(including that of impotency and diabetes being the major fear).

Dear Sir
Relax. most important thing is cardiovascular diseases is to relax. the treatment of high blood pressure or hypertension has two arms. one is medicines and other one is life style modifications. life style modifications include optimization of weight, low salt diet, DASH diet plan, regular exercise, moderation of alcohol intake, stop smoking, meditation and mental relaxation.
if your multiple readings are more than 140/90 mmHg (provided you are not a diabetic or kidney disease patient)then you should receive some medications beside lifestyle modifications. diabetes is a side effect of beta-blockers and diuretic class of blood pressure lowering drugs these two may be associated with impotency in very few. Leave the choice of drug to your doctor and just share your apprehensions with him before he starts it.
