dear doc., I have white marks on my eyelids and below my eyes. earlier it was small now it beginning to grow. how are this caused by and how can I prevent it
Simon ,I need to know whether this white mark is raised above the skin level or flat .Is it milky white .I would also like to know your age and other systemic illness if any.
I can give you two possibility with little information you had given.1) vitiligo (if lesion is milky white and flat).
2) xanthelasma (if raised and rough).
For further information I would require above details.
simon, xanthelasma is nothing but a type of cholesterol deposition .You can get your blood lipid profile done just to the level of cholesterol. Its a benign condition and is just a cosmetic problem.
The best treatment of xanthelasma would be laser ablation and suturing (if needed). Some doctors prefer doing TCA PEEL over the lesion .It may require multiple sessions for good result.
So,consult your dermatologist and discuss about the available treatment options.
