Having Bad Back And Leg Pain, Sciatica On My Lower Right Side. On Flexeral And Physiotherapy. Pain Persistent. Treatment?

Hi, I'm 20 years old and I've been having bad back and leg pains for about a year now. It started with sciatica on my lower right side, and progressively got worse. I've gone to doctors many times and expressed the main I've had but they just give me flexeral and advise physical therapy which I definitely need to do, I just don't have the transportation. Throughout the past year it has gone from a sharp pain in my back to down my right leg, around my knee cap (which has painful symptoms all of their own, they feel weak) down my shin and now all the way down to my toes. Just the other day I was having a basic walk around my town and my toes and ankle started tingling like it was falling asleep but I couldn't shake it off, and I've read enough that it progresses to tingling sensations it cannot be a good sign. Is there any way to ease the pain, anything that can be done? I know pain isn't the best description, especially for what I've been dealing with but it is just consistent, and really affects my everyday life and what I can and cannot do now. Any advice, suggestions, warnings, whatever you have would be greatly appreciated.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing. Your description suggests that you have Lumbar disc disease with radiculopathy producing typical symptoms. The initial mode of management for this problem would be conservative by following means -
* avoiding forward bending activities
* avoiding lifting weights
* intermittent pelvic traction & back physiotherapy
* analgesics, muscle relaxants & methylcobalamine preparations

If all the above measures fail to give symptom relief, then an MRI scan of L.S.spine is mandatory & treatment is to be planned accordingly. Regards
