Have Titanium Rods, Pins After Femur Fracture. Feel Like Knee Giving Out, Knots Both Knees. Remove Rods?

Hello, my husband and a motorcycle accident exactly 10 yrs ago today. He broke femur in both legs. Drs used titanium rods and pins. He was never told that he would have to have them removed nor is he having pain. The only issue he is having is in his knee it looks like the screws are working their way out. He has a knot on either side of the knee. Should the rods be removed. What are the pros and cons
