Have Pain In Left Ear While Sneezing. Pain In Left Side Of Mouth While Eating. Reason?

About two weeks ago, I started having a severe pain in my left ear whenever I sneezed. At the same time, I would experience an excruciating pain in the left side of my mouth whenever I tried to eat something. This pain would seem to start in the left side of my jaw, and run up to my left eardrum. I thought that maybe I had a cracked tooth or something, and I tried to get into see a dentist, but it was Friday afternoon and I could not find any dentist that would accept me if I was not already a patient. By Monday, I found that the pain had subsided quite a bit, and so I put off going to the dentist, which was probably really stupid. Anyhow, I still have the pain in my ear when I sneeze, and to a lesser extent, the pain in the left side of my mouth when I eat.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

You may have a condition such as a temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. It could be something else too, but with the description given TMJ condition seems to be the cause.

Stop chewing on left side for couple of days; do not eat hard food. try soft foods. Take a pain killer for your pain. Meet an ENT or a dentist in the next possible appointment.

Regards,
Sreenivasan
