Have Migrain Since 17 Years Of Age. I Am Taking Vasograin For Treatment
I am 55 yrs old having migrain since 17 yrs of myage. My mother was having the same. My daughters r suffering too. We take vasograin for treatment. There is no pattern found out till date. I suspect some nuerological problems. Should I get checked?
Hi,
There are two kinds of treatment approaches to migraine. One is abortive (to abort an attack by using medicines like vasograin) and other is prophylactic (which prevents the attack). If the attacks are very frequent, then it is advisable to start prophylactic treatment. There are many types of preventive treatment available. Consult a neurologist/psychiatrist who is aware of such options so that a medicine can be chosen which suits you best.
Migraine is very common in women and tend to run in families. Vasograin is only for aborting attack but is not very helpful and can be harmful to health because of ergot in it. Better to take drugs like Sumatriptan or Rizatriptan under medical supervision and advise only. You need to understand that you have to stay away from chocolate, coffee, loud noise, bright light, stress. There is good prophylactic therapy which Neurologist will offer which will prevent further attacks by drugs like Propranolol which is very helpful.
