Had Sub Total Thyroidectomy For Papillary Cancer. Weight Gain. Chances Of Recurrence?
I had a sub-total thyroidectomy in 2007 for papillary cancer. My TSH has always been below 1. My most recent TSH is now 6.07 and I have gained about 10 pounds. My T3 Free is 1.3 and T4 Free is 2.7, both within normal limits. I'm concerned that the tiny part of my thyroid that is left has now started growing cancer again. What are your thoughts.
You may want to look at your previous t3 and t4 readings to see if there has been any changes. Sometimes the values may be in the normal range but have decreased or increased above what is normal for that person.
If your t4 and t3 values are lower than your normal it may produce an impact.
If this is the case your thyroid replacement therapy may need to be adjusted.
In terms of any possible regrowth, you may want to consider speaking to your doctor. He or she would be monitoring for any problems and able to determine whether this is the case.
I hope this helps
