Had Programmable Shunt Placed, Had Setting Changed Due To Low Pressure Headache And Also Stiff Neck. X-ray Normal

Hi, I had a programmable vp shunt placed in January . I had the setting changed from 1.5-2 due to low pressure headaches . From June I started to get severe daily headaches . 2 weeks ago they decided to change the setting to 2.5(As far as vp shunt will go) I then after this had blurred optic disks so they had no choice but to change it back down to 2. My headaches have become more chronic . Worse in the morning but an all day thing . I can t function with this headache . The headache is always left side (shunt is on right) neck stiffness also. I can t sleep at night and fall asleep suddenly and random parts of the day . All my ct scans and shunt series show that the shunt is in the correct place . I feel stupid when speaking to the doctors as if X-rays and ct scan show nothing then surely I shouldn t have such severe headaches ?

Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. The headaches that you are having are probably not related to the VP shunt. They seem to be more of tension headache. Amitriptyline is a good drug for such headaches. Taken in low doses like 25 mg can benefit you.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
