Had Late Periods. Have Heavy Flow, Pain. Seen A Piece Of Skin Flowing Out. Miscarriage?

My period was about 5 days late and finally came yesterday with bad cramping. Today I am experiencing a heavy flow and pain. When I changed my tampon, a piece of skin with blood on it, came out. It looked like a thinner version of chicken skin. I've never had anything like this before. I'm not on birth control, however am sexually active; at 30 years old. Could this be a possible miscarriage? Or is it normal?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
A heavy bleeding is expected after overdue periods due to excessive endometrial layer formation. The piece of tissue can be endometrium or an early miscarriage or a small blood clot.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
