Got Hurt, Pain On Head, Nausea. Is It Possibly A Mild Concussion?

my daughter had a teammate (swimming) jump on top of her last night. She has had a lot of pain on her head and some pressure in her head but has not had any nausea, etc. It is painful to jump, walk fast, etc. Is it possibly a mild concussion? Should we be concerned?

Dear parent,

Thanks for the query. It could be a mild concussion, and as you are well pointing out, the most important things to monitor are severe headaches, visual disturbances, extreme somnolence, incontinence, slurred speech, difficulty walking, etc. A discrete headache is common but can be benign. If any of these red flags appear, she should be evaluated in the ER; if none, then it was a mild trauma.

Hope that is useful, wish you the best,
