What Medical Condition Could Cause A Fishy Vaginal Odor?

Even before i had my IUD inserted, i already had this strong fishy smell coming from my vagina. It cleared up for a while then it came back again and now it’s smelling like fart. Like rotten eggs. What’s the meaning of this? Should i take antibiotics already?

Hi,

From your description, it appears like you have a vaginal infection. A swab from the cervix and vagina under speculum examination by a specialist is most helpful in the current scenario to detect the nature of the infection and plan further management. Please do not self-medicate. Do not douche or use strong soap solutions to clean the genital regions. Instead, use mild antiseptic solutions. Please get proper assistance from your health care provider.

Hope I have answered your query. You can reach me here for further queries.

Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam, OBGYN
