Elderly With Constant Pain In Leg. Been Advised Hip Replacement Or Cortisone Treatment. How To Proceed?

I am a 71 year old woman, very active for all my life. not overweight, I do specific exercises, normal to low blood pressure, but I have a steady pain in my right leg. the pain started almost one year ago. doctors think it is coming from the hip. I took many pain killers, but no benefits noted. I went to see a specialist that said I should not have a hip replacement now. the family doctor said i could have a cortison treatment, but he is against. what can I do?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what you have been going through. it is often very frustrating for the patients when their doctors cannot agree on what the exact treatment should be.

I don't think your doctor had enough information to have suggested that you get a hip replacement. Hip pain has never been an indication for a hip replacement. Hip pain calls for further investigation and management of which a replacement can be an option if the joint if completely destroyed.

Please, tell your doctor what his suggestion is. It is simple to say I don't want this but what did he proposed for your pains? the problem you have is the pain and all you need is what to help you stay out of it. So, do not be concerned about the product but frankly ask him what you should take for your pains disregarding that you are on cortisone injections.

I hope you find this helpful and it addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. I wish you the best of health.
