Done Laminectomy And Discectomy. Numbness, Tightness In Calf, Pain In Foot And Toes. Normal?

Hello, I have recently had a laminectomy and discectomy 4 months ago. The sciatic nerve pain I had experienced prior to the surgery is completely gone. Now I am experiencing numbness and tightness in my calf down through my foot and toes. I am also experiencing random sharp pains in my foot and toes. Is this normal? Will I eventually regain sensation in my calf and foot?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

All your symptoms are suggestive of Spinal stenosis and nerve compression. Propably, they might be compressive pathology at some other level (other than operated one).

An MRI scan of the involved area will show up the compressive elements. Management depends upon the diagnosed condition.

I suggest you to consult a spine surgeon for further evaluation and management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
