Done TAH And Adhesion Removal. Difficulty Having Bowel Movements. Need To Worry?

Hello Dr... I am having some issues with Bowel Movements after surgery... I am 2wks post op from a TAH... also had adhesion removal... the adhesions had attached my uterus and ovary on my left side to my intestines and colon ... at first I was sure it was from inflammation. However after 2wks I feel I should be back to a bit more normal. I eat a high fiber diet and drink plenty of 100% fruit juices and water. Should I be worried that it could take me 24hrs to have a bm after the initial feeling of needing to go??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi ! I think two weeks post op from a TAH is too early to jump to any conclusions till you are having your bowel movements routinely. One has to be concerned only when one is unable to pass gases and the abdomen gets distended without any relief. I would suggest you to continue the high fiber diet with plenty of liquids and also add daily exercises like a morning walk gradually increasing in intensity to your routine. This possibly will relieve you of your bowel problems. In case the problem increase, then I would suggest you to get yourself reviewed by your surgeon for further first hand opinion and management. Wishing you an early recovery.
