Does Undergoing Thyroidectomy Result In The Patient Gaining Excess Weight?

I have a enlarged thyroid. My endocrinologist has recommended a thyroidectomy or radioactive iodine. A primary doctor told me yesterday if I had the thyroidectomy to be be careful of weight gain. Does this mean if you have a thyroidectomy you gain a lot of weight?

Hello,
Thyroidectomy involves removal of thyroid gland.
It leads to a deficiency of thyroid hormones which leads to slowing of metabolism ,leading to weight gain.
However this is avoided by starting on thyroid hormone tablets.
The dosing of these tablets is done on the basis of regular thyroid function tests.
