Does Tonsils And Adenoids Removal Cause Burning Pain In Ears Of A Child?

Hi My Granddaughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed a week ago today. She refuses to take any meds orally. she is 3.7 years old and 31 lbs. She is in real pain complaining that her ears are burning. should we take her to the ER? Is this a common after surgery? is there anything I can try to help relieve the pain. I have been giving her acetaminophen suppositories 120 mg every 4-6 hours.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain burning sensation and pain in ears after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy is a common finding and can be due to radiating pain from throat or can be due to irritation to nerve fibres that supplies sensation to throat as well as ears..

As the healing will proceed gradually the pain in ears will also resolve..
You can continue giving her suppositories but try and convince her to take oral medication as it will relieve faster..
Follow proper post operative instructions given to her by the surgeon and consult him and in case if he advises gargle with numbing mouthwash can help in relieving pain..
Feed her with more of fluids and a semisolid diet..
Give her ample of rest..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
