Does The Tissue Attached To The Uterus Pass Out Normally?

Hello, I had a medical abortion a month ago and after my check up, my ultrasound showed a vascular tissue size 15mm/8mm in my uterus. I had no symptoms or pain. My doctor recommended waiting for the tissue to pass during my period. After my period tissue measured 11mm/8mm and it was sill attached to the uterus. Doctor said that tissue was not developing and that I should wait to pass it naturally. I just got my second period, still no signs of infection or any problems. I am not sure if I should have some kind of intervention or is it safe to wait? Thank you so much!

thank you for you query

Retained products of conception ( the tissue that is left behind after a medical abortion) may cause abnormal bleeding or bleeding between your periods. They may also lead to infection which may cause pelvic pain and fever.

However , if you do not have any of these symptoms and the tissue is reducing in size, a wait and watch is better compared to a D&C ( dilatation and curettage ) where they would use a curette to clean out the tissue remaining in your uterus.

This procedure carries certain risks (uterine perforation ,scarring, bleeding) and has to be done only if absolutely necessary.

If you develop any unusual pelvic pain, fever, or abnormal discharge/bleeding see you OBGYN immediately.

Hope this helps.
