hello my name is ryan im 29 and have just started seeing a lovely woman who is 26. She has told me that she has herpes from a previous relationship and i was ok with this. the problem is i dont fully understand everything about herpes and we did have sex and i gave and recived oral sex but had protected sex. she has no signs of any herpes just now but how can we have protected oral sex and normal sex with as little risk as possible and what are the chances i have caught herpes from her already??

Thank you for query .It is better to have protected intercourse during intercourse especially when the active lesions are present.the chances of transmission is 1000 times higher during active lesions than without lesions. It may be that already you have got infected and it might be asymptomatic or dormant. You both can test for IGG for HSV1 and 2.Then you can decide based on reports also. You can get back for any clarifications.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist.
