My 51 year old daughter resently died from v tack. The only thing they found wrong with her was that her potassium was 2.2 .she had been complaining of being tired. Her doctor was giving her progestierin.Woult this have caused her to hove low potassium?
Indeed, hypokalemia (low serum potassium levels) increases the risk of ventricular tachycardia but Progesterone as such does not decrease the potassium levels.
Hypokalemia could have occurred due to certain medications like diuretics ("water pills") like loop diuretics or thiazides or due to excess loss through vomiting or diarrhea.
Hope this answers your query.

Does Progesterone Cause Low Potassium Levels?
Dear Madam, Sorry to know about your daughter s sad demise due to Ventricular tachycardia which seems to have developed following a myocardial infarction. Indeed, hypokalemia (low serum potassium levels) increases the risk of ventricular tachycardia but Progesterone as such does not decrease the potassium levels. Hypokalemia could have occurred due to certain medications like diuretics ( water pills ) like loop diuretics or thiazides or due to excess loss through vomiting or diarrhea.
