Does Persistent Bleeding During Periods Affect The Menstrual Cycle?

Hello Doctor,Last month in first week of May I had my periods for more than 12 days and bleeding was not stopping and my Dr.Gynac suggested meprate 3 times a day for 7 days and thereafter twice a day for 14 days. It really worked. It did not stop totally but the flow reduced by 90% with in between spotting but now again today i started bleeding as if its my normal period. What i want to ask is whether it is normal that mine next cycle of period is commenced since last month i had got periods in first week of May.

Hello,

You are suffering from irregular heavy bleeding and are on Meprate prescribed by your gynecologist, but now have again started bleeding. Yes, persistent bleeding may affect the date of your menstrual cycle. Persistent bleeding occurs due to hormonal imbalances, cervical polyp, fibroid, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, anemia, poor general health condition, thyroid issues, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined and get investigations (blood tests, urinalysis, Imaging tests, etc) done so that treatment can be stated at the earliest. You may require conservative treatment with surgery if required. Take food rich in iron, calcium, protein and minerals. If obese, reduce your weight. Do regular exercises.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
