Does Numb And Heavy Legs Causing Inability To Walk Indicate Tissue Damage?

My grandmother is 69, she couldn t walk for almost 7 years already. We have taken her to medical treatments and even herbal treatments. We sent her to the best hospitals in our country but none of them proved and gave the cure to her disease. She had various tests, she took the MRI, CT scan and all of those medical technologies. Some doctors said she had something going on with her nervous system which disabled her ability to walk. But then it was just a half fact but it was not clinically proven. She had therapies but then didn t worked, drank medicines but didn t worked. And we have reached to the verge in giving up and she too. She can move her legs but can t feel them, it feels too heavy for her to handle. Her legs are becoming smaller due maybe to lack of exercise. She was once a farmer due to chemicals being applied in the crops doctors concluded she had somewhat like a parasite that caused her illness so she was given medication but in the end it was useless. Please answer my question, is there a possibility that there is something wrong woth her muscle tissue? because doctors say that she had mild stoke before but it wasn t even evident and there were no signs and symptoms. It was just one day she woke up, she couldn t feel her legs anymore and can t walk. I forgot the name of the disease, it was somehow connected to muscular tissues somehow related to ALS but a different case.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, there can be assembly of underlying conditions which can pause inability to walk with heavy legs at the age of 69 years as:

- auto immune disorders

- immobility related muscle atrophy

- severe nutritional deficiency as that of protein, vitamins, minerals

- amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

- subacute combined degeneration

- spinal cord lesions ( as spinal stenosis, rheumatoid arthritis or else ).

* Kindly provide me all details of her work up with doc for further correspondence and guidelines.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
