Does Multiple Nodules In The Lungs Indicate Cancer?

Hello, in 1995 I had severe viral pneumonia (double lung) while pregnant. the left lower lung being the worst affected. I had scar tissue that was sometimes visible in an x ray from it. in about 2008 I was given a ct scan that showed multiple small nodules in the left lower lung. at 3 and 5 months, they had not changed in size. my doctor felt this was scar tissue from the pneumonia. my friend who had breast cancer and went through treatment, then developed multiple nodules on her lungs, and it was diagnosed as cancer, and her doctor told her multiple nodules are almost always cancer. should I be worried about the nodules found 8 years ago?

Hello ,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.comand thanks for showing trust on us.
All nodules are not cancer in lung , only 1,1 to 11 percent of nodules results in malignancy and rest are found to be benign .
Such multiple nodules which were found 8 years ago and haven't cause you any trouble from long time are definitely benign nodules . Multiple nodules in lung can be malignant as well as can be benign . Cancerous nodes are mainly more than 1 cm in diameter and if such nodes are present then biopsy is indicated . The nodes which are smaller than 5mm are mainly benign and seen as a result of scar , pulmonary nodes , benign lesion , granulomata , harmatoma , infectious nodule , abscess , round pneumonia , hemangioma , focal hemorrhage . As there has not been any change in size and you had previously pneumonia so these nodules are most probably scar tissue and you don't need to worry about it .
If you have doubts and anxiety then discuss this matter further with your Healthcare providers so that they can reassure you .
Best Regards
