Does Milk Duct Gets Permanently Plugged In Feeding Mother?

I am a 30 yr old breastfeeding mother, who suffered from plugged milk duct/s in one breast after which I have not been able to make more than 1 1/2 ounce of milk from that side. Is it permanently plugged or could I make better milk from that side for my next baby?

Hello,
Thank you for asking your question at healthcare magic
I understand your concern.
There are few things that you can try to reopen the clogged duct
-Take warm shower/apply warm compress on the affected breast
-Try pumping milk from affected breast more
-Massage the clog towards the nipple
-Have your baby feed from affected breast first
-Use Tylenol (if not allergic) for pain and discomfort

Usually the clogged duct reopens and you will not have problems breast feeding

However if the condition is persistent for a long time or if you develop severe pain, swelling and redness of breast, fever chills etc which are signs of infection, Immediately consult your doctor. Your will need antibiotics to clear the infection

Hope I was able to help you.
Please feel free to address any more concerns.
Regards,
Dr.Lekshmi
