Does Intake Of Diltiazem 120mg Cause Dizziness, Nausea And Light-headedness?

I have only taken one 120 mg of diltiazem last night around this same time. I am very light headed, dizzy and have nausea and sweats. I was unable to sleep at all last night. Is it this medicine or something else and should I got to ER? I am taking it for angina

Hi, thank you for using Healthcare Magic

I have seen your problem and will try to give some explanation.
Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker or calcium antagonist. This drug works to handle hypertension and prevent angina.

Diltiazem's way of working is to dilate the blood vessel wall so that the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart can increase. This process will lower blood pressure and heart rate, while reducing the heart workload.

Diltiazem has the potential to cause side effects, as is the case with other medications. Some of the side effects that generally occur when taking this drug are:
1. Dizziness, especially when sitting or standing up.
2. Headache.
3. Nausea.
4. Stomach ache.
5. The skin is flushed.
6. Constipation.
7. Swelling of the ankles.

For your dizziness, try to take some rest. Contact your doctor immediately if symptoms dizziness, nausea that you experience are getting worse or the frequency increases. Or, if the angina attacks.

Some tips for you:
1. Use diltiazem as recommended by doctor and do not forget to read the description on the packaging.
2. Perform regular medical checkups.
3. Avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages because it can increase the risk of side effects, such as dizziness.
4. If you want to stop using diltiazem, do not do it all of a sudden. Consult your doctor first.
5. Always use diltiazem with the same brand and dosage, unless there is a change from the doctor. Do not forget to check and make sure the brand and dose of diltiazem each you redeem the recipe.
6. Make lifestyle changes, such as applying a healthy diet, stop smoking, stay away from liquor, and exercise regularly.
7. Make sure there is enough time between one dose with the next dose. Try to take diltiazem at the same time every day to maximize the effect.
8. For patients who forget to take diltiazem, it is advisable to immediately drink it when remembered if the next dose schedule is not too close. Do not double the dose of diltiazem on the next schedule to replace the missed dose.

Thank you and take care...
