Does Hitting Head After Falling Cause Brain Injury?

my brother is quite drunk. he was passed out. He awoke and tried to get up, and then fell down and landed on his head. there is a two inch laceration, not deep. we have stopped the bleeding. should we get him to the emergency room, or wait until he is sober. He landed Hard on his head and I am concerned about the possibility of brain injury. I should probably call an ambulance.
